Starting sensory play can feel a little daunting, can’t it? With so many amazing ideas doing the rounds from mums and content creators on Pinterest, Instagram and TikTok, it’s natural to wonder: “Where and how do I begin?!”

Maybe you’ve seen cloud dough, Oobleck or small-world setups that your child would absolutely love, but you’re not sure what materials or tools you actually need, or how to set it all up.

The good news?

A) You’re not alone.
B) You don’t need to spend a fortune on a cupboard full of supplies or hours prepping!

A few simple tools can open up a world of learning, creativity, and calm for your little one.

That’s why we created the Sensory Play Starter Tool Kit  — a thoughtfully designed collection of our bestselling tools to help you kickstart your sensory play journey with confidence. It includes everything you need to create fun, hands-on activities that support your child’s learning and development.

What’s Included in the Sensory Play Starter Tool Kit?

This comprehensive kit includes everything you need to get started with sensory play — no extra tools required!  Each item is safe, durable, and thoughtfully designed for little hands and curious minds, so you can relax and let your child get stuck in!

The Benefits of Sensory Play

Sensory play isn’t just fun! It’s a powerful way to support your child’s development.

  • Enhancing Fine Motor Skills: Activities like scooping, pouring and transferring small objects helps strengthen hand muscles and improve dexterity.
  • Boosting Cognitive Development: Hiding small toys in sand, water, slime and other materials encourages problem-solving, experimentation and critical thinking.
  • Supporting Emotional Regulation: Engaging with materials like cloud dough and water can have a calming effect, helping children (and adults) relax, focus, and self-soothe.
  • Inspiring Creativity: Small world play and open-ended activities unlock imagination and spark creative thinking.

All the tools included in our Sensory Play Starter Tool Kit are designed to support these benefits — making playtime even more engaging, fun, and educational!

Ready to get started but need some inspiration?

Try Pom Pom Colour Sort!

If you’re new to sensory play, Pom Pom Colour Sort is a fantastic first activity that uses all the tools in the Sensory Play Starter Tool Kit. Here’s what you need, how to prepare, and how to play!

Supplies:

Prepare:

  1. Fill the deep PlayTRAY with water.
  2. Arrange the compartments onto the lid, fill with water and colour using food colouring.
  3. Add a selection of pom poms in different colours to the deep PlayTRAY.
  4. Lay out the utensils from the Starter Tool Kit for transferring the pom poms.

Play:

This activity introduces your child to the mathematical skill of sorting, while also teaching them to identify and name colours. Encourage them to retrieve the pom poms from the water using the mini scoop, bowl and tongs, and sort them into different compartments. They can also use the dropper/pipette to suck up the water and mix with other colours.
